The alien species of green iguana has invaded Hualien, Taiwan, and Taiwan's Agriculture Department said on Sunday that it is concerned that the giant green iguana's habitat has continued to spread and plans to remove it. Green iguanas originally inhabited Central and South America. After being introduced to Taiwan, the number of green iguanas has continued to increase sharply.
The Department of Conservation and Forestry Affairs of the Taiwan Agriculture Department received a report from a citizen last Friday that there were green iguanas on the banks of the Qijiachuan River in Hualien, so they immediately organized personnel to catch them. After being rounded up and caught by a net, it is an adult female green iguana, but it may have been diseased or injured and died naturally after being caught.
The director of agriculture in Taiwan pointed out that the most serious alien species in Hualien is still the Chameleon. About 40,000 were removed the year before and 50,000 were removed last year. The county government continues to cooperate with the Forestry Bureau and civil forces to strengthen prevention and control, control the number of floods, and avoid threats to the ecology.
